The sci-fi adventure movie Dune is based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert. Set in a dystopianĀ future, it centres around Paul Atreides, heir toĀ Houses Atreides, and his family,Ā and their battle on the planet of Arrakis.Ā The movie was praised for its elaborate costumes, amazing production design, and incredible music. Dune received several awards and nominations. Here are some cool facts about the movie.

Some filming took place in the Liwa OasisĀ inĀ Abu Dhabi and someĀ in the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan, the same placeĀ Star Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerĀ was filmed.

Martial arts expert Roger Yuan choreographed the fight scenes. He also worked on fight scenes for Jason BourneĀ and the James Bond film,Ā Skyfall.

Dune avoided using green screens, relyingĀ instead on sand-coloured backdrops, as well as practical effects and natural lighting.Ā PracticalĀ sets were also built atĀ studios in Budapest to help capture the film'sĀ out-of-this-worldĀ look and feel.

It took 30% of actorĀ Stellan SkarsgĆ„rd's productionĀ time to get his makeup done toĀ transform him into the character Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. TheĀ bath scenes where he emergesĀ from dark, murky water were real and did not just rely only on CGI. SkarsgĆ„rdĀ actually got into a pool of murky water! How dedicatedĀ is that?

The design team designed more thanĀ 1000 looks for the planets Arrakis, Caladan, and Giedi Prime.Ā

Lady Jessica is the only character who wearsĀ a bright colour in the movie.

Liet Kynes is a man in the book,Ā but in the movie,Ā the character is a black woman, played by actressĀ Sharon Duncan-Brewster.

Composer Hans Zimmer was responsible for the superb music for the movie. He is known for composing several award-winning movies, withĀ The Lion King being one of his most memorable ones.
